Meet Leander Pienaar
Leander Pienaar is the visionary behind Jetsport, a powerhouse dealership and service centre for off-road and watersports vehicles. With a career rooted in high-speed racing and an unwavering passion for the great outdoors, Leander brings expert knowledge and a true love for adventure to Jetsport.
His Journey
Leander’s journey began straight after school, diving into the South African Off-road Championship. His racing career took him to new heights when he represented the South African Bombardier team at the infamous Baja 1000 desert race in Mexico. As a multiple winner of the 800km Roof of Africa Cross Country Motorcycle race, Leander has proven his resilience time and again.
But that’s not all – Leander’s competitive spirit extends beyond motorsports. He raced with Dave McShane, the Australasian safari champion, in the SA Cross Country series, navigating the rugged terrains of the veld in a 600hp off-road race car. His adventurous pursuits don’t stop there: from mountain biking to orienteering, Leander has conquered grueling challenges such as the Expedition Africa and Skyrun mountain race, showing his versatility and endurance.
In 2023, Leander and driver Eben Basson made an impressive debut at the Dakar Rally, finishing 7th in Class T3 – a remarkable achievement in one of the most demanding rallies in motorsport history. Leander’s navigation skills earned him the title of Dakar 2023 Rookie of the Year (Navigator) and solidified his place among the top talents in the field.
As the T1 Navigation Champion for 2022, 2023, and 2024, and a T1 SA Rally Champion for three consecutive years, Leander continues to build on his impressive legacy. He currently serves as the navigator for off-road legend Giniel de Villiers, participating in the W2RC South African Safari, the National Rally Raid Championship, and is tentatively set to compete at Dakar 2026.
Leander’s passion for adventure and motorsport has always been about more than just racing – it’s about the spirit of perseverance, dedication, and the thrill of the journey. He brings this same energy and commitment to Jetsport, ensuring every customer receives not only the best products but also expert advice and service.
